Rust uses the Easy AntiCheat system, which may block the crosshair overlay in Hooks mode. If the crosshair doesn't appear in this mode, try switching to another overlay mode.
HudSight in these modes does not interact with game files, and the software is not listed as prohibited. One of the modes, Game Bar, is based on the Xbox Game Bar technology built into Windows 10/11, designed specifically for overlays.

Step by step

First, make sure that the color mask setting in the crosshair configuration has a non-zero transparency value (alpha channel). If the game or launcher is running with Administrator rights, launch HudSight with the same rights, or run the game without Administrator rights.

Enable the Hooks overlay mode. Switch back to the game and wait a few seconds. Still no crosshair? Let’s move on to the next step.

Choose the Real Overlay mode. To use this mode, you must run HudSight with Administrator rights. You can find more details about this mode here.

If you don't want to run HudSight as Administrator, try the Game Bar mode. You'll need to install a free widget from the Microsoft Store. More details on this mode can be found here.

The Simple Overlay mode may not work if you're not playing in windowed mode or fullscreen windowed mode. However, if nothing else worked, it’s still worth a try. More details on this mode are available here.
